Center Receives Grant
Samaritan Counseling Center received an early Christmas present in the form of a $15,000 grant from the Carl B. & Florence E. King Foundation in Dallas, reported Pat Dishman, executive director.
This is the first year the King Foundation has awarded grants outside of the Metroplex so we feel very fortunate to receive this, she explained. The funds will be used to help provide mental health services to those clients who otherwise might be unable to get the help they need. Of course, each individual will have to qualify for this assistance just as they have in the past. We are grateful to the King Foundation for partnering with us as together we strive to help a growing number of people in the Concho Valley.
Through November 30, 2009, the Center has seen 1,158 clients. This number includes 442 new clients and 595 reduced-fee clients. In all of 2008, there were 415 men, women and/or children with 82 of these being new. We have definitely felt the impact of the downturn of the national economy, Ms. Dishman added. When people lose their jobs and sometimes their homes, their families and even their dignity, they need to know there is someplace where they can get the help they need. In our area, this is Samaritan Counseling Center.
Samaritan is located at 242 N. Magdalen. All counseling is by appointment only. Interested persons may call 325/944-2561 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
